Synopsis

Chronicles one summer in the life of a young Tibetan family who struggles to reconcile their traditional way of life with a rapidly modernizing world. In the high grasslands of eastern Tibet, we are given a glimpse into the life of Tibetan nomads. Locho, his wife Yama, and their infant daughter Jiatomah follow ancestral traditions, spending the summer months in the Zachukha grasslands, the highest, coldest, poorest and most remote region in Sichuan Province, China. Neither trees nor crops grow there--only the grass that sustains the family's herd of yaks. As their pastoral traditions confront rapid modernization, Locho and Yama must reconcile the challenges that threaten their 4000 year old traditions and reshape their existence.
