Synopsis
When Miron's wife Tanya passes away, he asks his best friend Aist to help him give her a ritual send off according to the traditions of Merya culture, an ancient Finno-Ugric tribe from Lake Nero in West-Central Russia. Although the Merya people blended into the Russian society in the 17th century, their myths and traditions live on through their descendants. The two men set off on a road trip, taking with them Tanya's remains and two small birds in a cage. Along the way, Miron shares intimate memories of his conjugal life and as they reach the banks of the sacred lake where they will part with Tayna's remains, he realizes that Aist and Tanya were more than just friends.
