Synopsis
Following the Iranian Islamic revolution in 1979, political upheavals forced many Iranian Kurds to take refuge in Iraq, where they were placed in camps under appalling conditions. In 2004, Sheelan, a young doctor of Kurdish origin currently living in Sweden, decides to take advantage of the fall of Saddam Hussein to return to Iraq. She hopes to find her uncle who she has not been in touch with for over twenty years. Having suffered a stroke, he has lost the ability to speak. His son hopes to take him to his homeland, so that he can live out the rest of his days in peace. Unable to convince her uncle and cousin to return with her to Sweden, Sheelan accompanies them on a long and difficult journey to Iran.
