Synopsis
Andy Blane is one of the top newsreel cameramen for the World Wide New Service, and while he gets all the credit, his assistant, Dave Durkin, does all the work. They both fall in love with the same woman, Ann Jordan, an attractive young nurse. Andy tries to double-cross Dave in their mutual pursuit of Ann, and the two end up in a free-for-all. Dave then asks to be reassigned as a first cameraman himself, and he and Ann plan to get married. When a wounded underworld figure comes under the care of Ann, she learns that there is to be a raid on a cafe owned by gangster chief, Nick Thomas, and tips off Dave. Dave attempts to cover the scene alone, but he fumbles the job and is fired. Dave and Ann are forced to postpone their wedding, and Dave spends weeks looking for another job, to no avail. He runs into Andy at a fire, and when Andy's new assistant fails him, Dave steps in and helps out. Andy goes to his boss to get Dave's job back, but is unsuccessful. To get Dave's mind off his troubles, Andy invites him to cover the arrival of a king, traveling incognito by train. While filming the king's arrival, Dave notices a car pull up alongside the tracks, and sees Thomas inside. Dave then trains his camera on the car, only to see two men emerge and kill one of the train's passengers. Dave rushes the film back to the newsreel office, with the gangsters in hot pursuit. The film is safely developed, and the Thomas gang is rounded up by the police. Dave is rehired as a first cameraman at World Wide, and he and Ann are married, with Andy acting as their personal cameraman.
