Synopsis
In Arizona, ranchhand Skeeter is so entranced by a photograph of a prospective wife that he does not notice rustlers until they bag him and steal part of the herd. Although the sheriff trusts Tex Mason, foreman of the Triple X ranch, a noted citizen, John Thomas, instills mistrust into him because the Triple X is the only ranch being hit. Thomas' ulterior motive, however, is to purchase the ranch for himself from the owner back East. The owner, Turner, has refused to sell the ranch because Tex has made it profitable, so Thomas' gang, who also work for Tex, have been raiding the ranch. After Turner dies, he leaves the ranch to both his daughter, Peggy, and Tex. Peggy immediately dislikes Tex because she wants to turn the place into a dude ranch, and he intends to raise cattle. Skeeter and Peggy's aunt, Flossie Doolittle, strike up a romantic friendship. Thomas befriends Peggy by saying he was her father's friend and helps to further dissuade her from trusting Tex. He also makes her believe Turner intended to sell the ranch to him, but Tex refuses to sell his share. Out of good will, Tex buys Peggy a new bridle for her horse, but when his horse throws a shoe in town, Thomas uses the horseshoe to incriminate Tex in the rustling. Tex outwits Thomas' men after they ambush him, but then the rustlers cause a cattle stampede, endangering Peggy. Tex rescues her and forces one of the thieves into confessing to the sheriff. Tex and the sheriff lasso Thomas and arrest him. Peggy's feelings toward Tex have changed and now they are in love.
