Synopsis

Kenneth Burns is an investor who gambles his firm's money on the stock market. His secretary, Mary Harper, who is in love with the building's electrician, Jimmy Duncan, gives Burns their savings to invest, which he uses to cover his loss with his broker. When Mary argues with Jimmy, she asks Burns for the money back so she can give Jimmy his share, but Burns refuses. Burns' wife Ann, is seeking a divorce because she is tired of her husband's continuing infidelity and is herself in love with attorney David Witman. Burns will only agree to the divorce if Ann provides him with a large settlement, After a final confrontation with Ann's husband, David saves large deposits from being withdrawn from a bank in the same building, but his secretary misconstrues a private conversation and spreads a rumor of a run on the bank. Jimmy confronts Burns in his office and fights with him. The fight ends when Burns accidentally falls from a window to his death. Mary and Jimmy reconcile, and renew their plan to save money together.
