Synopsis

Dan Lane breaks away from Jim Burk and his gang of cattle rustlers when they decide to rob the stage coach. During the ensuing shootout, the driver is killed and Dan stops the runaway coach, saving Sally Ryan's life. Sally's father, John Ryan, the sheriff, deputizes Dan, and although Dan becomes an honest lawman, when he falls in love with Sally, he confesses his past to her. She forgives him, but sheriff Dave Bishop comes to town looking for Burk's gang and Dan knows he must prove his new loyalty. When Burk and his men rob the town's safe, Dan sends the sheriff and posse to the hideout and he follows Burk, who has escaped with the gold. After a violent fight, Burk surrenders and the gang is put behind bars. Dan is ready to pay his debt to society, but Sheriff Bishop explains that his name has been cleared back in Texas. Freed from his criminal past, Dan can now marry Sally.

Notes

Although the Variety review credits Wilbur McGaugh with camera, he is credited as assistant director in all other sources. Modern sources add Dick Botiller and Artie Ortego to the cast. This film is a remake of Columbia's 1930 film The Lone Rider, starring Buck Jones and Vera Reynolds (see AFI Catalog of Feature Films, 1921-30; F2.3159). It was remade again by Columbia in 1939 as The Thundering West (see below).
