Synopsis
When the Sons of the Panther, a secret Ivory Coast society, slay lepidopterist Dumont, police are baffled over a motive. During a subsequent investigation in Abidjan, French attaché Jean-Luc Hervé de la Tommeraye, lepidopterist Baby Sapin-Leterrier, and guide Renaud Lefranc encounter many mishaps devised by the Sons of the Panther. Despite this harassment, Baby discovers a downed airplane laden with diamonds and contacts her Parisian gang of jewel thieves. Lefranc, however, notifies the Sons of the Panther, who kidnap Baby. Rescued by Jean-Luc, Baby debates disposition of the diamonds. As the attaché argues the merits of restitution, he and Baby are abducted by helicopter and flown through the jungle dangling from a rope. The helicopter is pursued by police and finally forced down. Rouffignac, Jean-Luc's superior at the embassy, is unmasked as leader of the Sons of the Panther. Responding to Jean-Luc's supplications, Baby abandons her life of crime, instructing her minions to assist the police.
