Synopsis
Ace New York police detective Johnny McCloud is the enemy of every lawbreaker and is known as "Strong Arm" for his habit of relying on his fists instead of a gun to dole out justice. The moment the stalwart detective sees torch singer Lola Parker, however, he is captivated by her dazzling eyes, platinum blonde hair and sultry demeanor. He resolves to make Lola his wife, but his ambition is thwarted by her love for Georgie Perry, her handsome but weak-willed fiancé. Georgie falls in with the underworld and is influenced to extort $15,000 from a bank. Determined both to uphold the law and eliminate his rival for Lola's affections, Johnny apprehends Georgie. While Johnny is taking Georgie on the train to Sing Sing, however, Lola uses her abundant charms to trick him and help Georgie escape. The humiliated Johnny quickly loses interest in the rest of his job as he becomes obsessed with recapturing Georgie and finding Lola. One evening, Johnny is with his partner, Happy O'Neill, on the trail of a gang of silk thieves. Johnny's obsession cause him to slip up when the case gets dangerous, which gives the crooks the opportunity to kill O'Neill. Disgraced, Johnny is suspended from the force, and is later summoned to a meeting with gang chieftain Mossie Ennis. Johnny's bluffing impresses Ennis, who reveals that Georgie is working in Bermuda as his bootlegging agent. Thrilled to learn that Lola is also in Bermuda, Johnny agrees to retrieve Georgie, who Ennis suspects is double-crossing him. Johnny's mission is successful and when he brings the errant couple back to New York, he is met at the pier by Ennis and his gun-toting henchmen. Ennis intends to kill both Georgie and Johnny, but just as he is about to do so, his limousine is surrounded by police motorcycles, which then escort him to police headquarters. This time, Johnny succeeds in getting his prisoners to Sing Sing, and included in the sorry bunch is Lola, although Johnny is incarcerating her only to keep track of her whereabouts. Lola is soon paroled into Johnny's custody, and he is able to give her the wedding ring he has been carrying in his pocket for the past six months.
