Synopsis
Maria Morton, who attends a young women's boarding school, leads a carefree and innocent life, unaware that her mother is a hostess in an East Side nightclub. While walking on the beach, she is attracted to Slim Shayne, an adventurer, who persuades her to spend the evening on his boat (actually a rumrunner), and in an encounter with revenue officials, he escapes and Maria is expelled from school. Going to Avenue A in New York, the girl is appalled to discover her mother's secret, and she marries Slim, hoping thus to reform him. Mrs. Morton, unaware that he is her son-in-law, has Slim framed by her underworld friends for a murder; but learning of their marriage and that her daughter is pregnant, she insures herself for $10,000 to pay a lawyer to free Slim, then takes poison. Slim is saved and finds happiness with Maria.
