Synopsis

The total populace living in the vicinity of a deserted Arizona town consists of a transvestite sheriff, a ranch lady known as Ramona Alvarez, her male nurse, who specializes in dancing the "Lupe Velez twist," and five "lonesome" cowboys who spend the better part of their time chatting about their hairstyles, practicing ballet on a hitching post, bedding down with each other, and discussing the loneliness that makes them love themselves more than anyone else. At the moment, however, most of the cowboys' interest centers around the young blonde drifter who has recently joined their ranks and seems to be the property of their leader, Mickey. One day the cowboys ride out to Ramona's ranch, pull her from her horse, yank her clothes off, and "ravage" her in the dirt. Outraged, she confronts the sheriff, but he is too busy with other matters, particularly the perfection of his drag costume. Later, when Ramona is alone with the drifter, she seduces him while reciting a litany. When their lovemaking is finished, Ramona suggests that they die together since life can hold nothing more joyous for them. But the drifter, having been propositioned by everyone, including the usually "stoned" male nurse, rejects her offer and accepts the proposal of Mickey's younger brother Eric that they ride off on horseback together and head for California.
