Synopsis

Saloon keeper Luke Miller pays Jed Corbett to impersonate notorious outlaw Joaquin Murietta and vandalize the town of Big Horn, in order to intimidate the local miners into leaving so that he can buy their claims. Sheriff Smoky sends for his friend, Tom Cameron, also known as "The Lone Rider," to help rout the bandit, and Tom and his friend, Fuzzy Jones, arrive posing as musicians. When Laura Hicks refuses to sell her mine claim to Miller, Miller orders Corbett to torch her house. At the same time, Tom also impersonates Murietta and, with Smoky's knowledge, pretends to attack her house. Miller believes that Tom is actually Corbett, and when he warns him about the sheriff, Tom realizes that Miller is behind the mayhem. Tom then foils Miller's plan to ambush a vigilante committee meeting at Laura's house by posing as Murietta again. When Miller reveals Tom's true identity, he raises suspicion against Tom, and the angry townspeople arrest Tom, Smoky and Fuzzy. They are not long in jail, however, as Tom has hidden a gun inside his guitar which they use to escape. When Tom captures Corbett while attacking Laura's house, Corbett confesses that he has been working for Miller. Miller then tries to escape, but is apprehended by Tom, and peace is restored to Big Horn.
