Synopsis

Jim Lanning, known as the "Hell's River Kid," quits Ed Farell's notorious outlaw band to work on his own; he intercepts an attempt by Farrell's gang to rob a stagecoach and meets Mary, daughter of Judge Stevens of Gold City, who believes he has rescued her from the gang, and he reluctantly agrees to escort her. Impressed by his "bravery," the judge urges him to head the Vigilance Committee and protect the town from outlaws; and he accepts, thinking only of Mary, with whom he falls in love. Later, Jim is kidnaped by Farrell's men and is shot in an escape attempt. The vigilantes, learning his true identity, pursue him; but Jim confronts Farrell, and a great chase follows in which Farrell is drowned. Relinquishing his life of the past, Jim finds contentment with Mary.
