Synopsis
The Lambs are London gangsters whose slogan is "No one can desert the organization and live." When prominent gang member Mullins tries to quit the gang, his death is engineered by the leader, Professor Tottie. Meanwhile, the gang's only woman member, Inez, is accompanied by her two lascar bodyguards to a Chinese restaurant near the Lambs's headquarters. They are eating when Inez spies Dave and Muggsy, two sailors. Inez tries to become friendly with Dave, but he discourages her, because he is of aristocratic background and has recently inherited a title as an earl. Dave is mistakenly accused of being a pickpocket, and Inez's lascars save him from the police. Dave is taken to the headquarters, where he is forced to join the Lambs. His protests are overcome when Tottie places the knife used to kill Mullins in his hands. With his fingerprints on the murder weapon, Dave is now at the mercy of Tottie's whims, for if he does not cooperate, the seemingly incriminating evidence will be given to the police. Soon after, Tottie sends Dave to stand guard in the Layton home during a robbery. There he meets Madge Layton, an old friend, and they make a date for lunch. Dave then moves into his recently acquired country estate, Ruddy Grange, and becomes acquainted with the butlers, Wister and Stanton. The next morning, Dave reads in the newspapers that he is suspected of both the Layton robbery and the Mullins murder. Dave sends Tottie a defiant note, in which he resigns from the gang, and the reply is sent via Bert, Tottie's henchman. With the help of Wister and Stanton, Dave forces Bert to sign a document revealing the truth in the Mullins and Layton cases. As Bert leaves, Madge arrives for luncheon. Realizing that the Lambs may arrive at Ruddy Grange at any moment to avenge themselves, Dave asks Madge to leave, but she is abducted in her own car. Dave outwits the gang, and his bravery convinces Madge to accept his proposal of marriage.
