Synopsis

When psychiatrist Dave Lamont goes on a blind date with a spoiled woman named Geraldine Vail, she speeds and drives the car erratically. She is pulled over by a policeman, who learns of her poor driving record and decides to escort her directly to the offices of her uncle, Judge Tom Waterman. When Waterman threatens to take Gerry's car away if she is pulled over again, she storms out of his office. Disgusted, Dave leaves moments later to find Gerry fighting with the elevator operator in the hallway outside Waterman's office. Hearing the argument, Waterman begs Dave to take Gerry as his patient, but he refuses, explaining that he is on vacation. Waterman quickly changes Dave's mind, however, by threatening jail for both if they refuse to take a retreat to his lodge in the Sierras. Gerry and Dave drive to the lodge, where they are greeted by the caretakers, Joad and his wife Martha. After their first therapy session, Gerry asks Dave to take her to a roadhouse called the Snake Pit. When he refuses, she sneaks out the window and goes alone. After they discover Gerry missing, Joad and Dave find her at the Snake Pit dancing with a couple of men, who fight over her. On the way back to the lodge, Gerry and Dave decide to pull over when Gerry explains that she is frustrated, and then kisses him. While they are stopped, a policeman drives up and tells them that a nearby lumber company has been robbed. Upon returning to the lodge, the couple discovers that Stan Martin and his gang have taken over the place at gun point. The next morning, Dell Parker, Stan's sweetheart, becomes jealous when Gerry flirts with Stan. When police lieutenant Bain comes to the lodge to ask questions, Dave signals that the gang is inside. Bain begins a stake-out, while Stan's henchman, Bud, arranges for a plane to land in the mountains so the gang can escape. When the gang makes a break for it, Bud is shot and killed by the police. Desperate, Stan and Dell take Dave and Gerry hostage, but the couple fights back. The police enter and arrest Stan, but Gerry and Dell continue fighting until Martha knocks Dell out with the heel of her shoe. Dave kisses Gerry, who is still out of breath from the fight.
