Synopsis
Set on the Ionian side of the Calabrian peninsula, one soul moves through four successive lives. A Shepherd herds his goats up in the hills and slopes above his village. He is ill, with a chronic cough. To treat it every night he drinks dust gathered from the floor of the local church mixed with water. Dirt not being an effective remedy for respiratory disease, the Shepherd dies: dust to dust. But there is still a heartbeat. The story moves immediately to the animal world, as a white baby goat is seen dropping from his standing mother's womb and slowly scrambling to his feet. From the Human we have moved to the Animal. Later, Plants take center stage.
