Synopsis

I. A gunslinging stranger rides up to an isolated farmhouse and encounters only one occupant, a frightened wife whose husband is momentarily absent. Fearful for the life of her husband, the woman offers herself to the stranger, unaware that he has come to the house merely to return the husband's gun. II. During the day an incorrigible practical joker torments all those he meets. By night, however, he is a tired and strait-laced husband who is something of a bore to his wife and son. III. After enjoying the services of a prostitute, a client recognizes a picture of the woman's husband as an old school chum. The husband returns home and proves to be a true friend, indeed, by refusing to let the client pay for the pleasures of the wife. IV. After enjoying an amorous interlude with a lovely woman, a pleasantly relaxed young man is loath to leave the woman's bed though she must dress for an important occasion: her wedding. V. An impatient lover has difficulty finding a trysting place which will satisfy his fastidious fiancée. While looking at an expensive motel, the lover happily encounters a flirtatious maid much less selective than the fiancée. He emerges from the motel satisfied and takes his fiancée home. VI. A night waiter gets off work after the buses have stopped running. To solve his transportation problem, he accepts offers from prostitutes who own automobiles, permits them to drive him home, and then bids them good night. VII. When his sister is "dishonored" by a philanderer, a timid young man is forced by his mother to confront the philanderer and demand retribution. Instead, he quickly forgets his mission and permits the philanderer to show him a new way of life. VIII. A rag dealer is invited to the palatial home of a jaded noblewoman, presumably to be offered a selection of rags. When he discovers that she is really offering him sex, he announces that he is interested only in material things. IX. Granted a 2-day parole to visit his "dying mother," a prisoner discovers his pass is a ruse devised by his pregnant wife to make people think that it was he who made her pregnant. Once back in jail, however, he recalls his vacation with pleasure and boasts of his wife's state of marital bliss, as the other man hovers in the background.
