Synopsis

After the notorious "Wolf" gang burns the Kelly family's cabin, the Kellys give general store proprietor Cash Hopton the claim on their homestead to pay off their debt to him. Meanwhile, wandering gunslinger Montana and his pal, Pancho Gonzales, rescue Don Roberto Lopez and his daughter Rosita when their horses are spooked by the gang, who are chasing one of their members, Brown because they suspect he has leaked information about their activities. Montana and Pancho escort the Lopezes into town, where Roberto deeds one quarter of his land to Cash to pay off his own debts. While Roberto is explaining to Pancho that he is having financial difficulty because rustlers are stealing his cattle, Montana is hired by Buck Daggett, the foreman of the Lazy Y. Pancho tells Montana that he has already hired both of them out to Roberto, after which Montana informs Buck that he cannot work for him. The furious Buck starts a brawl that Montana and Pancho quickly finish. Later, Pancho tries to teach Roberto's Mexican ranch hands how to shoot, and Roberto informs his ranch manager, Tex Barnes, that Pancho and Montana are there to stop the rustlers. Steve, the foreman, and Montana arrive after inspecting the cattle, and Rosita makes it plain that she does not trust gunfighters, and Montana in particular. Tex goes to the town café, where Molly, the waitress, tells him to expect trouble from Buck, who runs the wolf gang for a mysterious boss. Meanwhile, Pancho tells Rosita, who has confessed that she is interested in Montana after all, that he is a terrible womanizer with six wives. When Montana returns to the ranch, he cannot understand Rosita's coldness to him, but his attempts at romance are interrupted by Roberto's announcement that Brown has been murdered. Fearing that Roberto will be the gang's next target, Montana stands guard that night, but Tex lets the horses loose from the corral to distract Montana while the gang rustles more of the Lopez cattle. Steve fires Montana and Pancho after Tex accuses them of freeing the horses, but Roberto rehires them the next day. That night, Tex murders Steve and pins the blame on Montana. Montana and Pancho are taken to jail, but with the help of Montana's horse, "Dynamite," they break out and force Tex to take them to the gang's meeting place while Rosita gets the sheriff. Montana and Pancho battle the gang until Roberto and the sheriff arrive with their men. Tex reveals that Cash is the secret leader of the gang, and that he terrorized the homesteaders in order to obtain their land when they were forced to leave. The gang is rounded up, and Rosita, who now knows the truth about Montana, rewards him with a kiss.
