Synopsis

When the King of Saxonia learns, through the prime minister, that his wife has given a ring he gave her to Count von Rimpau, he orders its retrieval. The prime minister commissions Michael Lanyard, an American being held under arrest, to get it, offering him his freedom in exchange. Simultaneously, the queen sends Stephanie, her lady-in-waiting, to retrieve the ring, which she wants to wear at the royal ball. Varril, a henchmen sent to watch Lanyard, follows on a train but is thrown off by Lanyard when he annoys Stephanie. With false credentials Lanyard gains admittance to the embassy and steals the ring from a safe, but, realizing he is suspected, he replaces it and escapes. At his hotel he finds Varril and overpowers him; learning of the queen's plight from Stephanie, he again steals the ring but is captured by Varril. He escapes, however, and slips the ring on the queen's finger at the ball, being thus rewarded with immunity and Stephanie's love.
