Synopsis
Manu, a stunt flyer, loses his license when he attempts a flight through the Arc de Triomphe. His friend Roland, a racing mechanic, likewise meets failure when his revolutionary racing car explodes. The two men meet Letitia, a sculptress whose first exhibition of welded metal has been a failure, and together they set off for the Congo coast to search for a downed plane with a cargo of gold and diamonds. [According to some sources they are joined by a vagrant who claims to be the plane's pilot and offers to reveal its location for a share of the treasure.] As they recover the loot, they are observed by a group of former mercenaries, who are likewise seeking the treasure. Posing as police, the mercenaries attempt to board the trio's boat, and Letitia is killed in the gunplay. Manu and Roland, who have grown to love Letitia, visit her aunt and uncle, who show them the deserted island ruin where she planned to live. The men discuss plans to use the treasure to fulfill the trio's dream of opening a restaurant on the island, but the mercenaries, who have followed them, intervene. Though the attackers are again unsuccessful in their attempt to steal the treasure, Manu is mortally wounded, and Roland is left alone.
