Synopsis

Tony Gregg, a popular New York and Newport socialite, refuses to marry wealthy Connie Tremaine, though he has become bankrupt through financial mismanagement. Instead, he arranges to send Norma Blake, his pretty stenographer, to Newport, where she is to meet and marry a millionaire on the condition that she pay Tony a 10 percent commission on whatever marriage settlement may materialize. Introduced as Tony's cousin, Norma makes a good impression at a party; and though she finds young Geoffrey West interesting, Tony directs her to Stormey Button, fat and wealthy. To precipitate the marriage proposal, Norma pretends to be drowning; her predicament becomes an actual one, however, and when Stormey cannot save her, Geoffrey comes to her rescue. Romance thus begins, and soon Norma and Geoffrey announce their engagement; on the eve of the wedding, however, Norma decides to marry Tony despite his poverty.
