Trivia
Featured 187,000 actual German troops in the battle scenes. This is more than 3 times the actual number of troops that participated in the battle being recreated for the film! The troops were diverted from the German front during Germany's final, losing battles.
After WWII, director Veit Harlan attempted to have the film re-edited so that it would be less of a propaganda piece and more of a "democractic film," but he died of cancer before he could do this.
The only feature film both written and produced by Adolf Hitler's Propaganda Minister, 'Josef Goebbels' (qv) (qv).
