Synopsis
While riding along the Mexican border, the Santa Fe Kid is stopped by Kent and his men, who are waiting for a shipment of smuggled goods. To get rid of the Kid, they turn him over to Sheriff Holt who, upon discovering the Kid's identity, enlists his help in apprehending the smugglers in exchange for his freedom. Appointed deputy sheriff, the Kid follows a trail of clues that leads to Kent. In the ensuing fight between Kent and the Kid, Kent's partner, Bill Stewart, shows up, kills Kent and frames the Kid for his murder. After the Kid is arrested for Kent's murder, Stewart incites a lynch mob in order to silence the Kid forever. Learning of the Kid's danger, the sheriff and his daughter Anne, who is in love with the Kid, persuade him to flee to the safety of the county seat. As the Kid rides off, Millie Logan, Kent's girl friend, follows him and shoots him. Millie's bullet knocks the Kid off his horse and into a river, and Millie returns to town with news of the Kid's death. After Millie's departure, however, the Kid pulls himself from the water and finds refuge in the cabin of Henry Lupton, an old miner, who informs the sheriff that the Kid is alive. Meanwhile, Stewart, trying to impress Millie, brags that he killed Kent, and Millie rounds up the other gang members for revenge. As Millie accuses Stewart of murder, the Kid finds their hideout and captures all the outlaws except Stewart, who escapes. When the sheriff and Anne arrive to arrest the smugglers, the Kid takes off after Stewart and brings him to justice.
