Synopsis
Monte leads a gang of teenage petty criminals and courts Glory, another gang member. When Hal McQueen comes to town, however, Glory is immediately attracted to him, provoking Monte's jealousy. At a beach party, Hal calls the gang's activities paltry, and when Monte then hears that liquor store owner John Elliot keeps his payroll in his safe each Friday, Monte challenges Hal to invent a scheme to steal the money. Hal soon concocts a plan in which the others will attempt to molest John's daughter Carolyn, thus allowing Hal to "rescue" her and win her confidence, after which they can easily kidnap her and demand a large ransom. The other teens lend Hal money so he can appear to be a worthy suitor for Carolyn, and soon he has managed to win her trust. A jealous Glory causes trouble for Hal, but backs off after he threatens to give up the scheme. Soon, however, Hal falls in love with Carolyn and wants to renege on the plan, but the others respond with fury, vowing to expose him and harm Carolyn if he does. Although he pretends to go along with them, Hal actually reveals the ruse to Carolyn and plans to leave town. Before he can, however, the gang forces Hal at gunpoint to join them in kidnapping Carolyn. Gang member Tick Tack picks up the ransom money from John, not realizing that the police are trailing him. As soon as the money is delivered to the gang, Glory declares that both Hal and Carolyn must be killed, and as Hal attempts to protect Carolyn, he is shot. Glory turns on Carolyn, but just then the police and John arrive, arrest the gang members and call an ambulance for Hal. With John's permission, Carolyn accompanies Hal to the hospital.
