Synopsis

Society girl Drue Waring is engaged to Eric Foster when she falls in love with a fortune-hunting playboy who uses her, then proposes to a wealthier woman. Drue then marries Eric on the rebound, but after the wedding, he discovers that Drue does not love him, and their marriage remains unconsummated. Eric then takes to drink and sails to Europe for months of wild philandering in Paris and London. Finally, Eric returns to New York and, overcome by a flood of romanticism on New Year's Eve, decides to visit Drue. Just before midnight, he walks into the middle of a party at her apartment and discovers the playboy, who is well on his way to a third marriage. Eric is unaware that Drue had not seen her old lover until that evening and has been lonely, and is about to walk out when Drue, in a fit of remorse, takes iodine in the bathroom. Drue survives, and she and Eric are then reconciled.
