Other books in the 11 volume series include "The Gods of Mars," "The Warlord of Mars," "Thuvia, Maid of Mars," "The Chessmen of Mars," "The Master Mind of Mars," "A Fighting Man of Mars," "Swords of Mars," "Synthetic Men of Mars," "Llana of Gathol" and "John Carter of Mars."

Kerry Conran was previously attached to direct.

Jon Favreau previously attached to direct.

Robert Rodriguez was previously attached to direct, but had to leave the project when he resigned from the DGA to co-direct "Sin City" with Frank Miller.

Paramount purchased book rights for $300,000 against $2 million in 2002.

Previously in development at Paramount. Previously in development with Sean Daniel and Jim Jacks. Mark Protosevich and Ehren Kruger previously wrote drafts of the script while it was in development at Paramount.
