Synopsis
When oil refinery president J. W. Brady refuses to succumb to pressures to raise his prices, his competitors send thugs to destroy his stations and steal his trucks. A gasoline price war is in progress and to help him win, Brady hires highway patrol officer William Rolph, who has just given Brady's daughter Jane a traffic summons. Rolph soon discovers that the refinery police chief is double-crossing Brady, and his services prove invaluable when he captures a man attempting to dynamite the plant. Jane, however, does not appreciate the officer's presence at the plant and inadvertantly tips off Walter Brennan, the general manager who is in league with the chief, about Rolph. Brennan then joins the refinery chief in setting a trap for Rolph, but Rolph foils their scheme, and in the ensuing struggle, the chief touches a live switch and is electrocuted. Although Rolph is now in complete control of the plant's security, Brennan continues his mission to blow up the plant and dispatches an explosive-laden truck to the compound. Aware of the fact that few people, including herself, are permitted access to the plant, Jane tries to enter the refinery by hiding aboard the truck, not realizing that it is loaded with explosives. As the truck approaches the plant, Rolph rescues Jane and sends the out-of-control truck into a wall and arrests the dynamiter. That night, Brennan hires an aviator to drop a bomb on the refinery, and when Brennan arrives and fires upon a dummy that he believes is the dynamiter, he is arrested by Rolph. When Rolph realizes that the signal beam emanating from the roof of the control room is the bombing target for an airplane flying above, he quickly diverts the airplane away from the building by shining a beam from a control truck, which takes the brunt of the attack. Grateful to Rolph for having saved his refinery, Brady offers him anything he wants as a reward, and Rolph chooses Jane.
