Synopsis

Dr. Stephen Garfield, head of the research department at Chemical Products, Inc., accidentally discovers a dangerous explosive while searching for a formula to prevent septic toximia from setting in after severe burns. Stephen orders the formula abandoned, but his assistant, Scott, decides to experiment further and blows up the factory. Stephen is discharged for negligence until Gilbert Weston and Downey, two members of the company's board of directors, realize that a fortune can be made from the explosive and offer to buy it from the chemist. Although torn between the demands of his social climbing wife Virginia, who wants him to sell the formula and make her rich, and what he feels is his duty to mankind, Stephen refuses to sell. Virginia angrily takes their son Steve, Jr. and leaves her husband, but restless and unhappy at being separated from his father, the boy runs back to Stephen. Enraged at Junior's disloyalty, Virginia comes after him, and while driving back home at high speed, her car skids, turns over and bursts into flames. In the accident, Virginia is killed and Junior badly burned. Assuming full responsibility for his son's life, Stephen injects the boy with his formula. After several treatments, the boy rallies and recovers, and father and son plan a new life together.
