Synopsis

Italian-born Papa Dinato is fulfilling a life-long ambition by putting his two sons, Joey and Rickey, through college. Consequently, when the two boys turn professional with their small combo instead of continuing their studies, Papa suffers a mild stroke and is confined to his bed. Aided by Papa's friend, the widowed Angie, Joey and Rickey take over their father's restaurant, rename it the Peppermint Lounge, and introduce the Twist there. On New Year's Eve, a society columnist (Sharon) accidentally wanders into the Lounge, takes a liking to Rickey, and soon has all of society joining the dancing teenagers. Overcome by sudden success, Rickey takes Sharon's advice and elegantly redecorates the Lounge. When he begins running the place on a "reservations only" basis, it loses its appeal and business falls off. Sharon walks out, Rickey secretly returns to college, and Joey and his girl friend, Piper, once more make the Lounge a teenage hangout. Business soars again, and all ends happily as Rickey returns and hands Papa his college diploma.
