Synopsis
Since the 1990s, residents of Intag, one of the world's most environmentally threatened regions, have protested against foreign companies mining copper there. A Japanese company left after their camp was burned, but despite an ordinance banning mining in the area, the Ministry of Energy and Mines sold the area's two mining concessions and a Canadian company took over. In 2006, an armed confrontation took place that continues to stir contention and conflict today.
