Formerly distributed by Warner Bros.

Filmed version of the 100th performance of the acclaimed New York stage production, which opened April 9, 1964 at the Lunt Fontanne Theater and ran for 17 weeks.

Richard Burton's original contract stipulated that, following the film's two-day showing in the United States (two matinee and two evening performances), the negative and every existing print were to be destroyed. Following Burton's death in 1984, however, his widow Sally Burton (nee Hay) discovered a 35mm print among his possessions. A second print, donated to the British Film Institute several years ago, was also discovered. Paul Brownstein Productions subsequently obtained rights to the film from Sally Burton.
