Synopsis
Two marshals follow outlaw Red Larkin to the ghost town of Pickwick, Nevada, but are murdered by a band of outlaws who hide out in the maze of underground tunnels that are part of the Lucky Hunch gold mine. Colonel Tim McCall, a marshal renowned as one of three "Rough Riders," decides to avenge the deaths of his marshal friends and goes to Pickwick to investigate. Tim learns from the local sheriff that Nell Pickwick, the founder of the mine, was recently found dead and that her relative Ted Hall, who was suspicious of the mine activities, has also disappeared. Tim joins up with local miner Luke Martin and Josie Hall, who has inherited the mine and has come looking for her brother. In the meantime, Sandy Hopkins, another Rough Rider disguised as a grizzled miner, has arrived at Luke's cabin. Rough Rider Buck Roberts arrives at the Pickwick home pretending to be an amnesiac who has lost his way in the desert. Josie and the foreman, Tom Cook, allow Buck to spend the night at the house, but that night someone leaves a threatening note on Josie's pillow and tries to steal Buck's gold. During a struggle with the masked robber, Buck discovers a hidden cache of gold hoarded by Nell, after which the robber escapes. Buck, who has earned Josie's trust after saving her from the robber, advises her to leave immediately for her own safety, although she had been planning to stay with local judge Crail. Instead of leaving, Josie seeks out Luke to help her find her brother, and they go into the mines together. Sandy, Tim and Buck finally join together and share information. They have discovered that Crail will inherit the entire Pickwick estate if both Josie and Ted die, and because Buck not only knows about the stash of gold, but also that the judge had suggested that Josie stay with him, they suspect Crail of the recent events. While Sandy guards the mine entrance by the Pickwick house, Buck, Tim and Tom tell the judge that they know he is working with Red Larkin, who has discovered a new gold vein in the mine. The judge draws his gun and his cohorts fire upon the Rough Riders. Several outlaws are killed during the ensuing gunfight, but Crail escapes to warn the rest of his men, who, after knocking Sandy out, have taken Josie and Luke hostage. The gunmen escape and while Tom releases Luke and Josie, who has learned that her brother was killed, Buck, Tim and Sandy capture the judge and his gang before they can steal the gold. The outlaws are arrested and the Rough Riders return to their ranches.
