Synopsis
At an Arizona prison farm, a convict escapes from his highway maintainence detail and crosses the state. The escaped convict arrives at the cabin of Dad Burns, an old prospector, who recognizes him as Jim Bullard, a former rancher who was convicted of killing Hank Raskobb, a member of an Ozark Mountain clan. Jim explains that he switched places with another convict, Tex Reddin, when Reddin was killed in prison, so he now feels safe from the law. Jim goes on to explain to Dad that he bought his ranch honestly from Hank, but the Raskobbs stole the deed before it was filed, which was why he killed Hank. Now Jim is aiming to seek his revenge and gain back the ranch for his children, Bobby and Linda, who have been told that their father is dead, while hiding in a mine under Dad's cabin. After one of the Raskobbs finds the old deed that would prove Jim's story, Jim places a note on their door, warning them to return his ranch. Days pass with no action, so Jim shoots one of the Raskobbs and leaves an ace playing card on his body. Later, two of the Raskobbs question Dad, then murder him. Meanwhile, Dave Danford is appointed the new deputy sheriff, but when he arrives in town to assume his post, two of the Raskobbs try to shoot him. Shortly after, Dave meets Linda, and they find Dad's body and a deck of cards with all of the aces missing. As the elderly sheriff plays checkers with Bobby, the Raskobbs come in and begin to beat him until Dave arrives. The Raskobbs notice the deck of cards fall from Dave's pocket, and suspect he is the man who is after their family. When rancher Jake discovers the Raskobbs rustling his herd, he is shot in the back. Jim, passing by, kills the murderer, then, while the Raskobbs are out of their house, Jim searches for and finds his deed. Bobby rides to warn Dave that the Raskobbs are after him. As Jim gives the deed to the sheriff, he learns that the Raskobbs are threatening his son. Bobby and Dave flee to Dad's cabin, where a shootout takes place. Jim sneaks in through the mine and sends Dave and Bobby away. Then, as the Raskobbs approach to kill the wounded Jim, he shoots into a box of dynamite. Bobby fights the last Raskobb, who falls over a cliff. The sheriff gives Bobby the deed, and after watching Linda bandage Dave's arm, Bobby realizes that he is not only gaining a ranch, but a brother-in-law as well.

Although onscreen credits include a 1935 copyright statement, the title was not found in copyright records. According to modern sources, Louis Weiss produced the film, and the cast also included Denver Dixon and Roger Williams. In the 1934 Film Daily Product Guide, this picture is called a "Range Rider" western, although onscreen credits list it as a "Rough Rider" western. Cyclone of the Saddle, also released in 1935 and starring Rex Lease and Bobby Nelson, appears to be the only other film with the Range/Rough Rider brand. The Film Daily Product Guide lists the production company as Empire Pictures, but no other evidence that Empire was involved in the making of the picture has been found.
