Synopsis

When Indian agent Steve Langdon and Gray Bear, a chief's son, are sent to Independence, Kansas, to withdraw the Indians' funds from the bank, Steve decides to protect against potential robbery by sending an express stage ahead with an armed guard while he and Gray Bear carry the money in their saddlebags on the passenger stage. Their plans go awry when the robbers, disguised as Indians, seize the passenger stage while it is stopped at a way station and kill Gray Bear. While fending off the outlaws, Steve notices a star tattooed on the leader's arm. As a result of the robbery, Steve is dismissed from his job, and some innocent Indians are arrested when one of the stolen coins is found in their possession. Vowing to avenge Gray Bear's death and bring the outlaws to justice, Steve decides to undertake his own investigation. Upon returning to town to question the express agent, Steve is shot at. After Steve overpowers his assailant, the man claims that he mistook Steve for someone else. Steve releases his attacker, then finds a stolen coin that was dropped by him. Soon after, Stella Larkin arrives in the town to meet her fiancé, but discovers that he has just been hanged as a bandit by the local vigilantes. When a collection is taken up for the bereaved Stella, Clem Hawkins, the stage driver, contributes one of the stolen coins. Under questioning, Clem admits that he informed the bandits about the money hidden in the saddlebags, but before he can go to trial, he is killed. When Stella appears once again, claiming that Clem was her fiancé, Steve exposes her ruse and forces her to admit that she is the sweetheart of bandit leader Dan Bentley, the man with the tattooed arm. In order to keep tabs on Stella, Steve arranges a job for her with Doc Hewes's medicine show. One day, when she slips out to meet Dan, Steve follows her and walks into a trap. Arkansas Tuttle, Steve's friend, races there with Jimmie Davis and his band. With Stella's help, Steve overpowers Dan while Arkansas and the others apprehend the gang. After bringing the outlaws to justice and recovering the stolen money, Steve is reinstated as an Indian agent.
