Synopsis
New Orleans police detectives Victor Beaujac and John Conroy are working on four cases simultaneously. First, they establish the innocence of a patrolman accused of murdering a purse-snatching socialite by proving that the young, drug-addicted thief actually committed suicide. Next, after a hunter discovers the body of a murdered bank robber in a swamp, the thief's son is kidnaped by his father's killers; however, the detectives apprehend the murderers and return the boy unharmed. The third case involves a hitchhiker who murders and assumes the identity of the driver who offers him a ride, but he is caught after a gun battle with Beaujac and Conroy. Finally, unemployed taxi driver Leonard Wayne, who has reported his wife and her little dog missing, is booked for their murder at the station house after he attempts to flee.
