Synopsis

A seaplane, piloted by Grant Murdock, is chartered by alcoholic film star Laura Winters and her secretary Jan Letterman. Caught in a storm, the plane is forced to crash land on an island inhabited only by marine biologist Peter Bartell. Soon, a human skeleton, recently picked clean, is washed ashore, and the group is menaced by millions of tiny, flesh-eating marine creatures. Although Bartell disavows previous knowledge of these strange animals, it is soon learned that in his laboratory he is attempting to control the organisms, increasing their size by electrical charges. The insane biologist forces Murdock, at gunpoint, to help him with a sinister plan to electrify the sea, but Laura intercedes and is shot. A beatnik known as Omar, who has shipwrecked on the island, is also murdered and devoured by the flesh eaters. Further experimentation by Bartell transforms the tiny creatures into a huge, carnivorous monster, which is destroyed by injecting Laura's blood into its one eye. [One source claims a second monster is similarly destroyed.] Bartell falls victim to his creation during the battle, but Murdock escapes to join Jan on the shore.
