Synopsis

Pat, a woman who owns a mine outside the town of Gold Center, arrives under the pretense of looking for insects. In reality, she is investigating the death of her mining engineer. Also arriving in Gold Center are Joaquin Flores and Pedro, who are undercover agents in disguise as Mexicans. Pat procures a car and then hires a local man, Alkali Potts, to drive her to Dead Horse Mesa, which is the site of her mine and a known hangout for a group of criminals led by Devil Jackson. When Alkali drives Pat to Dead Horse Mesa, they are chased away by the ruffians, who shoot out two tires in the melee. Joaquin, who has witnessed all of this, offers Pat a ride to town while Alkali remains behind with the car. Joaquin and Pat flirt on the ride to town. In town, Joaquin bargains with the deputy and a businessman, for a set of new tires for Pat's car. That evening, Joaquin confronts Bull, the man who shot out Pat's tires and forces him to reimburse her for the replacement costs. Later, Pat hires the deputy and his horses to transport her and the tires to the waiting Alkali. Once there, Pat goes to the mine to search for insects and is met by Jackson, who was preparing to blast the mine for more silver to manufacture counterfeit coins. He tells her a story to cover his activities. That evening, Alkali drives Pat to nearby Sonora Town. Bull and Wildcat become suspicious of Pat and warn Jackson, who makes plans to get rid of her. Later, Joaquin catches Bull and another conspirator, Beetle, in the act of minting silver coins and arrests them. Then as Pat attempts to escape from Jackson with proof of his counterfeiting, Joaquin arrives and arrests him as well. Pat then reveals her true identity and asks Alkali to guard the mine for her. Before Pat can leave, however, Pedro urges Joaquin to tell her the truth about himself and he does.
