Synopsis
Wealthy businessman and widower Frank Fields departs for Europe, leaving his son Jimmy in the charge of Miss White, a nextdoor neighbor. Fields meets the fascinating Grace Moore (in reality a notorious adventuress) and falls in love with her; but she is living with Anton Lebau, a confidence man sought by the authorities. When Lebau objects to her relationship with Fields, she betrays him to the police. Unprepared for a stepmother, Jimmy takes an intense dislike to his father's new wife, who deliberately causes friction between father and son. She destroys a letter for Fields from Lebau, and when Fields finds the partially burned envelope in Jimmy's stamp album and reprimands him, the boy leaves home. Meanwhile Fields discovers his wife's s duplicity and quarrels with her; complications ensue when Jimmy returns home for his possessions and Lebau is killed in the library; Jimmy and his father each think the other committed the crime, but Jimmy's recordograph reveals the guilty party.
