Synopsis

Richard Hammond, an unscrupulous manufacturer, is blinded in a factory accident while testing a new light bulb. Although anxious to resume work, he is persuaded to vacation at his cottage in Cornwall, to which he is accompanied by Christiane, his wife; David Merton, his business associate; and Max, his playboy brother. When he discerns his name on a tombstone marking a new grave, Richard questions his sanity. Realizing that Christiane is David's mistress and that both are conspiring to kill him, Richard escapes to a hospital and learns he is actually in France. Returning home with Christiane and David the following day, Richard attempts to take his life by forcing their automobile into a river. David dies instantly. Richard swims ashore and hears his trapped wife's cries for help as she drowns.
