Synopsis

Chica, a young ragpicker living in Madrid with her little brother, Manolo, dresses as a boy and dreams of becoming a rejoneador (an equestrian bullfighter). She trains her horse, Cabriola, in the traditional routines until she is ready to perform for her idol, rejoneador Angel Peralta. Peralta is impressed by the "boy's" skill and arranges for his manager to help Chica obtain bookings in smalltown bullrings as an equestrian comedy performer. Her appearances are highly successful, and before long she is invited to appear in the ring in Marbella. Here Chica sees Peralta with his sweetheart and reveals her sex to the manager by her fit of jealousy. At the world-famed Feria de Sevilla, Chica's bullfighting skill is recognized by the crowd, and she becomes a rejoneador in her own right. The manager persuades her to put on a dress for the festivities. Dressed in a gypsy costume, she sings and dances. Peralta, shocked to discover that Chica is actually a girl, lifts her up alongside him on horseback, and they ride together in the traditional parade through the streets.
