Synopsis

Upon release from the penitentiary, Phillip Whitney tells his friend, Bennie, that he is going straight, and visits his lawyer brother John. Phillip looks up to John and while incarcerated maintained contact with him through a continental mailing agency. As John has no idea he was in prison, Phillip tells him that he has just returned from Japan. John is always busy with work, so Phillip strikes up a friendship with his wife Kay, and they soon fall in love. John is unaware of the affair, and Phillip and Kay regret their indiscretion and decide to forget it ever happened. Phillip plans to go away, but decides to stay when he sees a former cellmate, Gympy McLane, lurking around the Whitney home. Phillip recalls that McLane threatened revenge on John when he was released because of some disservice John had done him. Phillip confronts McLane at gunpoint, intending to prevent him from harming his brother. In a gunfight, the men kill each other, and John never learns of his wife's infidelity.

Notes

Harrrison's Reports calls Jameson Thomas' character "Bennie," however, other sources indicate that "Bennie" is played by Thomas Jackson, who provides comedy relief in the film.
