The film's working title was Gabriella. In 1970, co-director Mack Bing had produced Gabriella, Gabriella, a pornographic film that also starred Barbara Caron and shared several crew members and some of the same character names as Class of '74. Barbara Caron, under the name Gabriella Caron, Luanne Roberts and Hal Hidey appeared in both films. Because of the similarities between Gabriella, Gabriella and Class of '74, many modern sources erroneously state that they are the same film, but the stories are completely different.
Although a July 1971 Daily Variety news item stated that Tracy Reed was set to star in The Class of '74, she does not appear in the film. Modern sources add Jack Mattis to the cast. Although a July 1971 Hollywood Reporter news item named both General Film Corp. and Tempo Associates as distributors of Class of '74, Tempo was not named in any other source, and Crest Films released the picture in California. The Class of '74 marked the final film of actor Phillip Terry (1909-1993).
