Synopsis
Buck Roberts and Colonel Tim McCall, U.S. Marshals known as the Rough Riders, ride to Texas to join their partner, Sandy Hopkins, for his birthday. Before they arrive, Sandy is framed for the murder of his friend, John Dodge, the most powerful man in town, by outlaw Burt Logan and his gang, who are plotting to overtake the town. When Sandy goes after the real killers, he is taken hostage and kept in a cabin with Stella, Logan's con artist partner, who is posing as Dodge's longlost wife Ann. When Tim arrives in town, Sandy's niece Mary, who is engaged to Dodge's son Dave, beseeches Tim to find the real killer. Buck, meanwhile, has also heard of the situation and works undercover posing as an ex-convict who has stumbled upon the hideout cabin while looking for a meal. As part of the plan, Stella helps Sandy free himself, and they ride into town, where a lynch mob waits to hang Sandy. Tim prevents the miscarriage of justice and has the sheriff arrest his friend for safekeeping. Even Dave believes that Sandy killed his father after Pete, the barkeeper shows him evidence that Sandy, who has been running a hotel, owed Dodge a final payment on his hotel mortgage on the day Dodge was killed, and shows him the falsified letter from "Ann" saying she is returning to Dodge. Buck tricks Logan into revealing his plan and then attempts to arrest the Logan gang. A gunfight ensues during which Logan escapes. Dave chases him into a mineshaft, where he overwhelms Logan and shoots him. Tim and Buck follow the rest of the gang to the mineshaft and outwit them into arrest. The remaining Logan gang, including Stella are arrested, and Sandy is freed. Buck and Tim return to their ranches but promise to reunite for Mary and Dave's wedding.
