Synopsis

Federal marshal Kirk Allenby is hired by a cattlemen's association to help apprehend rustler Bob Enright, who bears a strong resemblance to Kirk. Bob's girl friend, Cherry Millett, mistakes Kirk for her lover, and he spurns her advances. Later Kirk meets Bob in his cabin and wounds him with his pistol. Believing he is dying, Bob entrusts his keepsakes and valuables to Kirk, asking him to go to Sun Dog, where his sister Roberta is trying to secure him a pardon from the governor. In Sun Dog, Kirk meets Carroll, foreman of the Enright ranch, who informs Kirk that Roberta is about to marry duplicitous outlaw Bagley. Bagley framed Bob, then helped Roberta get his pardon so that he could share in the estate of Roberta and Bob's dead mother. Kirk interrupts the wedding, demanding that Roberta take off her wedding dress, and she complies, believing Kirk is her brother. Bagley, enraged, accuses Steve Logan, Roberta and Bob's stepfather, of double-crossing him by not informing him of Bob's whereabouts. Logan, terribly in debt to Bagley, has already given one-third of his wife's estate to him, but Bagley demands another third. Mrs. Enright's will states that should either Bob or Roberta die, his or her share of the estate will go to Logan. Meanwhile, Carroll discovers Kirk's ruse and, out of love for Bob and Roberta, promises to help Kirk fight Bagley. Roberta, meanwhile, has become strangely attracted to her "brother." Believing Kirk, who is staying in Bob's room at the ranch, is Bob, Logan tries to kill him, but is foiled by Carroll. Following the incident, Logan refuses to continue in the conspiracy with Bagley, who futilely orders the sheriff to run "Bob" out of the country. Bagley gets Carroll drunk and shoots Logan with Kirk's gun, then sends a lynch mob of townspeople after Kirk. As Kirk is about to be hung, he begs Carroll to shoot him with a rifle so that he might avoid the disgrace of a lynching. Carroll shoots, but hits Bagley instead, wounding him, and Kirk is freed. Bob, now recovered, returns to Sun Dog and reports to the sheriff, who takes Bagley into custody. Bob is reunited with Cherry, while Roberta is united with Kirk.
