Synopsis
Terry Cummings, a willful, world-wise gold digger who works a cigar stand at a hotel in the big city, is visited by Betty, her naïve sister from the country, who is curious about the temptations of the city. Terry, who thinks ill of all men but uses them to get what she can from them, feels protective of Betty and refuses to allow her to marry because she thinks that Betty's boyfriend, Edgar Barrett, does not earn enough money. Alan Preston, the nephew of a rich stockbroker whose office is in the hotel where Terry works, becomes infatuated with her despite the opposition of his uncle, and although Terry, at first, believes that he is just like the rest of the men she has met, she changes her mind about him and falls in love. Betty becomes involved with Joby Johnson, a playboy, and she goes to a party at his penthouse one night with a group of others. Johnson gets Betty drunk and has one of the other girls take her to his bedroom. He then tells his other guests that the party is over, but Terry rescues her sister. Now convinced that Betty should marry, Terry gets $1,000 from Alan for Edgar to go into business by telling Alan that she needs the money for her sick grandmother, and he takes it from his uncle's company. Although Alan later replaces the money, his romance with Terry is jeopardized, but they are finally reconciled, and she revises her earlier opinion that all men are the same.
