Synopsis
In Del Rio, Texas, cowboy The Cisco Kid and his sidekick Pancho arrive at a mission, which is the home of young Bobby Del Rio. The padre tells Cisco that Bobby's father, Patrick Del Rio, who founded the town's bank, has been sentenced to die for a murder he did not commit. Cisco poses as a waiter delivering food to Del Rio's cell and breaks him out of jail. Cisco, Pancho and Del Rio then go to the mission's cellar to hide. Del Rio tells them that one day at the bank, he discovered that $90,000 in sequential bills were missing. When he asked his clerk to bring him the serial numbers of the missing bills, the clerk was shot by an unseen assailant. Shortly thereafter, Del Rio was arrested, and at his trial, a bank employee named Hodges testified that he had seen Del Rio shoot the man. Unknown to Del Rio, the real culprits, Hodges and Mayor Brady, are keeping the money inside a safe-deposit box at the bank until they can find the serial numbers list. Suspicious of Hodges, Cisco takes a bag of coins to the bank and asks him to exchange them for a $1,000 bill. Hodges offers Cisco two $500 bills, which he accepts. On the street outside, meanwhile, Marshal Scott mistakes Pancho for Cisco and arrests him on a trumped-up charge. Cisco then goes to Brady's office and forces him at gunpoint to phone Scott and order Pancho released. Later, Cisco shows Del Rio the bills that Hodges gave him and asks for the list, which was given to bank employee Kippee Valez. Meanwhile, Hodges and Brady learn that Bobby is being kept at the mission and go there with a search warrant. The padre complies with the warrant and begins to show them around, while Cisco and Pancho rush to the cellar to hide Del Rio. Cisco then goes to the bank to look for the list and finds a safe-deposit box key. He is about to open the box, when Brady emerges from the shadows, and they begin to fight. After Cisco knocks out Brady, he and Pancho escape, then fetch Kippee, who shows them where the list is. As expected, the numbers on the list do not match the bills, but Cisco and Pancho find the stolen bills inside the safe-deposit box. At that moment, Cisco, Pancho and Kippee hear Brady and Hodges sneaking into the bank and quickly hide. After Brady finds his spare key, he and Hodges enter the vault. Cisco then locks them inside and sends Pancho to fetch Judge Perkins. A short time later, inside the vault, Hodges falls asleep, so Brady places the bills into his own box. After Pancho and the judge arrive at the bank, Cisco reassembles the jury from Del Rio's first trial, then orders Kippee to open the vault. When Brady and Hodges step out with the empty box, Cisco asks for Brady's key and finds the money inside his box. In retaliation for his betrayal, Hodges shoots Brady, and is promptly arrested. After they learn that Del Rio has been freed, Cisco and Pancho say farewell.
