Synopsis
As cowboys Jack and Lucky are wandering through unfamiliar territory, they come across an injured man. The man tells them that his name is Pappy Temple and that he was attacked by a gang led by Dana, a claim jumper. Pappy, his two daughters, his son-in-law and his three friends, affectionately called the "old timers," live in the ghost town of Sundown and work a nearby gold mine. Pappy had been on his way back from filing a claim on the mine when he was set upon by Dana's gang. Promising to bring back help, Jack and Lucky leave Pappy behind and pick up Dana's trail. Along the way, they find the dead bodies of a man and a woman, who have been killed by Dana, and a crying infant beside them. Jack and Lucky take the baby to Pappy's camp, where his daughter Mickey claims the child as her own. Pappy is taken back to the camp, and after his recovery, he and the others pay the back taxes on Sundown. They are now the legal owners of the ghost town, but the ambitious Dana and his gang soon muscle in. The outlaws try to establish the town as a gambling resort, which is actually a cover for their attempts to find Pappy's mine. Meanwhile, Jack is falling in love with Mickey but, believing that she is the baby's mother, assumes that she is married and therefore hides his feelings for her. Fed up with the gang's interference, Jack and Pappy summon local lawmen, and soon the outlaws are routed. Dana is killed in a fight with Jack, after which Sundown is finally freed of its criminal elements. As Jack is about to leave, Mickey reveals that the baby belonged to her sister, whose body he found earlier. Assured of Mickey's love for him, Jack decides to stay in Sundown.
