Synopsis
After his father, who had been unjustly accused of embezzlement, commits suicide, college-educated but broke Paul Drexel earns his living by entertaining older rich women and teaching them how to dance. One day Paul meets Diana Trevor, a childhood sweetheart and, spurred by a mutually rekindled attraction, agrees to visit her at her home. When Diana returns home that day, she finds her father J. C. upset over an anonymous letter he received, which states that her stepmother Tamara is having an affair with a gigolo. Unaware that the gigolo is Paul, Diana makes light of the letter and comforts her father. Paul, having vowed to be worthy of Diana, then writes a letter to Tamara and formally terminates their relationship, but Tamara, who is in love with Paul, uses his letter to expose his past to Diana. Although Paul attempts to explain himself to Diana, she refuses to listen and dismisses him. Later Paul accepts a job offer in Brazil and throws a farewell party to which he invites the Trevors and all of his former clients. After another tense scene with Diana, a dejected Paul returns to his bedroom and discovers the slain body of Tamara. Paul is arrested for the crime, but Diana, sure of his innocence, sets out to clear his name and enlists the help of Mason, his new employer. She then hires private detective Reynolds and takes Donovan, a policeman, into her confidence. With Donovan's help, Diana arranges to trap the person who she suspects is Tamara's killer by releasing Paul and using him as bait. When Diana arrives at Paul's building with the killer, Donovan, who is hiding in Paul's apartment, hears her screaming upstairs and rushes to save her. Donovan and Paul discover Reynolds dead, and Diana, who killed the detective in self-defense, explains that Tamara and Reynolds, who was Tamara's second husband, had been blackmailing Mason, her first husband, because they knew that he had never legally divorced her. In addition, before he murdered her, Reynolds had been blackmailing Tamara because of her bigamy and her relationship with Paul. Cleared, Paul makes plans to leave for Brazil with Diana.

Notes
Although Beulah Poynter is credited in the copyright entry with writing a novel on which this film is based, no evidence that such a novel was published has been found. Publicity information in the copyright records suggests that a novelization of Poynter's story, whose publication was to coincide with the film's release, was planned. At the time of this production, Poynter was writing both novels and original screen stories. Pyramid Productions borrowed Judith Allen from Paramount for the film.
