Synopsis
Mechanic Link Byrd, Jr., is asked to repair the bus of country music star Sheb Wooley when it breaks down en route to Nashville. Link, an amateur guitarist, joins Sheb for an informal music session, and, encouraged by Sheb's secretary and agent Miss Wynn, Link decides to go to Nashville. Link's father and girl friend are opposed to the idea, but he stows away on Sheb's bus when it departs. In Nashville, Link accidentally appears on stage, and when Sheb invites him to sing, the youngster's stage fright overcomes him, and he runs off. Returning to the bus, Link asks Miss Wynn to give him another chance, but instead she gives him money to return home. An unscrupulous agent who learns that Link's name is Abraham Lincoln Byrd, Jr., dresses Link as the 16th president and has him perform a rock and roll act. The audience reaction is so violent that the President of the United States summons Link's father to Washington and asks him to do something about his son. Mr. Byrd travels to New York where Link is to appear on television, forces his way into the studio, and berates Link in front of the audience. As he is about to leave the stage, Link sings a patriotic song, for which he receives a standing ovation. He then returns home with his family.
