Synopsis
Babe Laval, an Atlantic City cabaret hostess who arranges female escorts for visiting conventioneers, demands that her boyfriend, Bill Bradley, give up gambling before she will marry him. When Bill refuses to stop gambling, Babe becomes involved with Ward Hollister, a soup company president from Philadelphia, who has come to Atlantic City because his star salesman, whom Babe had rejected romantically, has developed a drinking problem. Ward gives Babe a check to cover the salesman's hotel bill, but Babe's younger brother Tommy steals the check and uses it as part of a blackmail scheme against Ward. Because Ward believes that Babe is a party to the plot, he angrily rejects her. Eventually, however, Ward uncovers the truth behind the blackmail and clears Babe's name. Then, to bring Babe together with the man she loves, he offers Bill a job so that he will quit gambling and get married.

A late May 1934 news items in Film Daily noted that Major Productions, Inc., a newly formed company headed by David M. Thomas, had "arranged" for the production of six pictures in the "East," the first of which was to be Convention Girl. No subsequent reviews or release charts mention Major Productions in connection with this production, however. According to Film Daily, a "national newspaper and radio search for four distinct type of women" was instituted for the production. The winners were to be picked from one hundred finalists in Atlantic City the week of June 14, 1934. Shooting in Atlantic City was to begin June 25, 1934, according to a late May 1934 Film Daily news item. Interiors were filmed in July 1934 at the Photocolor Studios in Irvington, NY. According to Variety, the cabaret scenes were shot at the Ritz-Carlton Terrace in Atlantic City and included footage of a performance given there by Isham Jones and his orchestra. Other Atlantic City scenes included shots of the beach and parts of "last season's show at the Steel Pier."
